However, for those more aligned with the education sector, I have seen more than a few completely lost when it comes to the tools needed to accomplish the task at hand. To some extent, it would be similar to teaching physics 101 labs and assuming students are technically proficient enough with matlab in order to analyze and report the data. Anecdotally I stalled out at about about 25% of the way through an image analysis mooc due to tool infamiliarity. At that point, I realized it would be futule to go much further without a solid 6 months of experience with octave...
